Abhishek was picked in 2018 by the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) and that is when his IPL career took off. He had an explosive IPL debut as he smoked a 46 while coming in to bat for just 19 balls. The next season in 2019, he was traded to the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), who were able to capitalise on his ability to accelerate the score at the top of the batting order. He was able to guide the team to the finals in the 2024 season by becoming the highest scorer of the tournament with 485 runs. Abhishek also hit a record 42 sixes that season, the most by any Indian in a single IPL season.

Recent Developments
Abhishek’s position in the Indian squad was further solidified in early 2025 when the management asked him to play with more freedom so that he could express his attacking play. He has attributed his recent success to the backing of captain Suryakumar Yadav, coach Gautam Gambhir, and mentors such as Yuvraj Singh and Brian Lara.
