Having a chat with Raj Shamani, Aamir Khan spoke openly about a project that’s been within his heart for years — and it’s not your typical Bollywood movie.

Aamir came forward to say that his greatest and most ambitious dream is to produce the Mahabharat, but not as a film alone, but on a scale India has never experienced before.

In Aamir’s view, the Mahabharat is the best story ever narrated — replete with profound emotions, complex characters, epic action, and unrivaled storytelling. He doesn’t think there is any other story that comes anywhere near its radiance, neither by global nor Indian standards.

But here’s the catch — he doesn’t wish to rush it. Aamir visualizes the Mahabharat as a huge 10-part series, each part releasing annually. Why so many parts? For the simple reason that, according to him, “It’s impossible to capture the soul of Mahabharat in just one film or even two or three parts.” He wishes to do justice to every single detail, each character development, and each emotional scene.

Aamir also accepted that the tale is very sensitive and every detail being correct is paramount — not only creatively, but culturally and emotionally as well. That’s why he’s not rushing into it immediately.
He assured that he will only start work on Mahabharat after releasing his next film Sitaare Zameen Par. Till then, he’s gearing up and waiting for the apt time and team to undertake this huge responsibility.

This isn’t another movie for Aamir — it’s a legacy film. If it goes the way he dreams, India could finally have its own Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones — based on our culture, narrated from our perspective, and driven by one of our best storytellers.
