Aajkal internet pe ek trend chal raha hai – “Rajkummar Rao ho toh U.P. ka ladka hoga, middle class family se hoga, shadi ya social drama hoga…” Ye ek stereotype ban gaya hai. Jab wo ek police officer ko maar daalta hai, tabhi entry hoti hai encounter specialist ki – ek aisa cop jisne 98 encounters kiye hain. Maalik ek mediocre crime drama hai jo sirf Rajkummar Rao ki performance ke balboote pe chalti hai. Agar aap unke fan ho ya unhe ek dark, intense avatar me dekhna chahte ho, toh aapko yeh film thoda excite kar sakti hai. But content-wise, yeh movie kuch naya nahi dikhati.
